August 14th—21st 2020

This summer, a team from the VBCC Youth Group will serve with MACC Development in Detroit, Michigan. Our primary goal for this trip is to see our high school students experiencing God through a cross-cultural trip on which they will tangibly serve the city of Detroit. This trip is for high school students. Middle schoolers not participating in our Norfolk trip this summer who would like to attend the Detroit trip must contact Houston Enfield. All participants for the trip must fill out the below application. Before applying, be sure to read all the information on this page.

Meet Charles Johns and MACC Development. VBCC Missionaries Jonny and Ginny Hui serve with Mack Avenue Community Church, which founded MACC Development in 2010. They exist to seek the holistic revitalization of Detroit’s 48214 zip code, block by block, neighbor by neighbor. You can find more information here.

Why Detroit? VBCC’s connection through the Huis serves as the foundation for our high school trip this summer. As our students begin to prepare for adulthood, they will need new experiences that push them out of their comfort zone. Detroit is a major city in the United States with a culture and history far different than Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads. This trip will be a safe and memory-making experience as they study Scripture, push themselves, and capture a vision for the kingdom of God going to the ends of the earth.

What kinds of things will we do?

  • Teaching Sessions

  • Community-led Panel Discussions

  • Dinners with Families from the Community

  • Daily Morning Reflections

  • Community Canvassing

  • Daily Community Service Projects
